Happenings...

Well, things around here have been going decent. The puppies are learning very fast. Towards the end of our training time, I stop using verbal commands and they just hear the whistle. Very exciting to see them sit with no words at such a young age. Today was cleaning up the doggie droppings day. yippie... ha ha. The worst part of owning 3 large dogs. But I just got another 50 pound bag of dog food so I used that bag to collect my goods in. I think I got it all, I will do another sweep of the yard after dinner just to be sure.
Tonight is Taco night at the Moore house. Courtney is excited about that.Ashley came home from her friends house and saw we were having taco's so she made a taco song. lol It was too funny.

I tried a new cleaning replacement today and I love it!!! Well, I tested it yesterday and it works great so I made a large batch today. Dishwasher soap! Hears the scoop.

2 Parts Borax
2 Parts Washing Soda...not Baking Soda!
1 Part Citric Acid. (I read somewhere that instead of this you can use lemon-aid kool aid)

Put it in a Tupperware container and shake. It may get clumpy and hard, just break it up. That's the Acid doing that. Use 1 Tablespoon per load.

Now, I loaded my washer like usual, and then I put a test glass in. Just a clean glass, glass just to see if there was any residue on the glass. The load came out beautiful! Crystal clear! I was impressed. 3 Loads later and still very clean dishes! I am super excited!!!

Well, off to do more training, the puppies are getting loud!

Puppy Boot Camp Day 1

Well, today started puppy boot camp. The twins are at a bon fire, Ashley is with a friend, and David went fishing.

I have trained a few puppies over the years, and the kids have been in dog training for 5 years. So, I know a thing or 2 about dog training. Not to mention that my sweet Sammy boy won 1st place in Agility at the 2009 State Fair.

Today we worked on sit and come. The 2 most important commands. I am also whistle training them. This way I don't have to yell and scream when they are in the yard or at the river with us. Bella is scared of the whistle. lol too funny. I am using their dog food as the reward. They love it and the kernels are super small. I just sit in my chair, and when they get out of my sight, I whistle, say the command and they come a running. Love it!

We also have been working on ringing a bell when they have to go outside to go potty. I hung the bell and Molly remembered it and now she rings it. lol But she rings it just to go out to play. Today Dozer rang it to go out. Bells whines. I'll take any sign I can get.

We went for a car ride to my friends house today. Dozer puked on the way there. then they met a cat. they stalked it and tried to play. so funny! Then on the way home... more puke. uh! Bella just whines. So looks like more car rides for the puppies.

Well, now my van has been blessed again! first goat droppings now puppy puke! lol I just love these puppies! They are so good, and learn so fast! it is amazing!

I wonder.... Sam died on a friday, the following wednesday the puppies were born. I think that Sam has come back to us through Dozer. Not because he looks like my Sammy boy, but I see many things Sam did in Dozer. Like not going outside in the rain, he calmness, the way he learns things is so fast like Sam did. He even heels like Sammy did. I just get a feeling about Dozer. I can't explain it. David feels it too. Maybe I am crazy, maybe not. I just have this connection to him, it is weird. I haven't mentioned it to the twins not sure why. But I just got this feeling and it gets stronger the more we have him. I didn't feel it when we picked him out, but from the minute he came home with us it was there.

Well, I am off here for tonight. thanks for reading!

Cookies.....

As I sit here and the sky gets darker, I think to my self, I would love to bake something. So, with the power of the internet, I go online and do a search for my husbands favorite cookies. Peanut butter. My baking powder expired in November of last year. So, I needed something very very easy. I found it!

After mixing everything, I thought... maybe this isn't a good idea... but I thought what do I have to lose, so I baked them. Wow, they are awesome and full of peanut butter flavor. Here's the site I got them from. Enjoy!

My Shower Experience!

O.K. No one likes to clean the bathroom, right? I am the only one out there who hates to scrub a shower? With 3 kids, a hubby and now 2 puppies who use the shower, it gets very dirty VERY fast. Usually, I clean the entire thing on the weekends and do the bottom once during the week. Sometimes more if we bathe the puppies. So, I love "the works" cleaner. Love the way it cleans, the way the bottom of the shower feels on my feet right after it is cleaned. I know, you all are thinking that I am such a freak. Kinda like the same feeling you get when you slip into a bed of just washed sheets. AHHHH.

Anyways, back to reality. Now, in my quest for home made cleaners, I found a recipe for a home made shower cleaner this morning. My first thought was huh? 2 ingredients can't be as good as "the works", no way Jose. But I had time on my hands, and thought what could it hurt? So, I made the gallon of this mixture, filled up my new spray bottle and off to the bathroom I went. To clean the shower, I use old kitchen sponges, you know the ones you do the dishes with then they start to stink? Yep those. Now with the new dishwasher, I don't hand wash anymore, but that's another story.

Back to the shower... With the works this is my routine... Open the window, turn on the fan, spray the hell out of one section, then run from the room. Let it sit for a few then come back scrub, gasp, cough, rinse and then repeat.

This solution... I never opened up a window, didn't turn on the fan. I started from the top down like normal, and I could not believe the scum that was going down the drain as I rinsed the section I scrubbed. If a dirty shower wasn't so gross, I so would have posted pictures of my shower sections as I cleaned. Holly COW! Now, I used a bunch of elbow grease when cleaning because I wasn't too sure how it would work. MY god! As I got further down the walls, I went back to the top and just rubbed my hand on the wall to feel how clean it actually was... like a babies tushie! My shower has a little edge on the wall where the kids place bars of soap and razors so that gets extra grimie. There were a few spots where even the works couldn't get it "like new" clean. This cleaner did!

My shower also has those little groves or bumps on the bottom that get caked with dirt when the kids have super dirty feet. Yeah, I know... how gross. You KNOW it's clean because you cleaned it but still looks dirty? Yep that was my bottom of the shower next to the drain. ALL GONE!!! I am so excited to share this recipe with the entire world!!! AND it is super easy! Here's how to make it in less than a minute.

Use a old cleaned milk jug. Fill it half way with tap water. Add 4 ounces of liquid Castile Soap. then add 16 ounces of rubbing alcohol or lol any clear grain alcohol like Vodka. Fill to the top with tap water, gently mix and Wala! Done! A entire Gallon to use!

I got Liquid Castile soap at my health food store, because I live in the middle of no where, but I'm sure it is found else where. It is a tad expensive, but it is super concentrated so 4 ounces for a gallon goes a long way! Rubbing alcohol at the dollar store is super cheap as well! The recipe says you can use it as a deep cleaner like I did or to spray down a clean shower after showering to keep it clean. I spray and spray when I clean because to me more is better, right? So, FYI the alcohol was a tad stinky, so I think I'm going to add a few drops of Lavender Essential oil. But really, it was nothing like the works small. I mean I was leaning over the bottom of the tub spraying and scrubbing and it really didn't bother me all that much, not enough to stop and sit back and take a few breaths.

There you have it, my lesson on cleaning a shower, how to make your own cleaner and a small window into my crazy life!

Enjoy!

Puppies!

Bella and Dozer are doing very well. Playing a ton. Chewing a lot. Even whining to go outside, sometimes. Bella loves to lay right next to Molly. Dozer loves to play in the water bowl.  We are in the process of teaching them to sit. They play for about a hour really rough, then sleep for a hour or 2. It's so funny to watch them. They run through the house and dive under the chair in the living room. Molly even gets into the puppy play time. Sounds like a tornado going through the house sometimes!

My Creations.....

So in my effort to save money, I decided to start making different solutions and cleaners around the house. Supplies are easy to find, and fun to make! I thought I would share with my friends and family who are interested in saving some money and/or helping out the environment!

Laundry Soap

  • 1 bar Fels Naptha Soap (~5.5 ounces)
  • 1 ½ cups of Borax
  • 1 ½ cups of Washing Soda (NOT baking soda)
  • 1 stainless steel grater
  • Water, hot
  • Large empty container (1 gallon)

Instructions
  1. Use a medium saucepan to heat 2 cups of tap water. Adding a little extra won’t hurt.
  2. Grate the bar of Fels-Naptha and divide it into 5 equal groups. A digital food scale is very helpful on this step.
  3. Add 1 portion (~1.1 oz.) of the grated soap into the boiling water on the stove. Stir occasionally until it is completely dissolved. It’ll only take a minute or so.
  4. Measure 1 1/2 cups each of the Borax and the Washing Soda into a large bowl; stir until well mixed.
  5. Measure the powdered mixture into 5 equal portions and store each in snack size plastic bags. Add one portion of this powder mixture into the pot of now soapy hot water; stir well for about a minute.
  6. Let this detergent concentrate cool just enough to not melt your plastic jug. Pour it into a one-gallon container. If you’re worried it’s too hot, add a touch of tepid water.
  7. Add enough hot water from the tap to reach half-way.
  8. Make sure your container has a well fitting screw-on lid and shake the jug like your ridding your body of pent up aggression. The solution needs to be 100% mixed. It won’t take more than a couple of minutes.
  9. Let this jug sit all day, or overnight. It will be extremely thick and look like a blob; that’s good in this case.
  10. Once the processing time is over, shake the jug for another couple of minutes.
  11. Fill the remainder of the jug with hot tap water. Shake for another minute and you’re done.

Notes
It doesn’t hurt to give the jug a little shake before each use. It takes about ¼ cup to do a very large load of really dirty laundry; there is no need to add any more water to the mixture. Remember this is high efficiency (HE) detergent so don’t worry that you don’t see suds filling the window of your machine.

Everyday Cleaner:

  • 1Cup Water
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Liquid Castile Soap
  • 4 drops of Lemon Essential Oil
  • 2 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil
  • 2 drops of Lavender Essential Oil
Combine in a container with a lid and swirl. Dip a rag in it, ring it out and wipe!

Now, if you are wondering about germs, here's some things I have read about Essential Oils.

Lavender, Lemon and Tea Tree: Antibacterial, Anti-fungal, and Antiviral So feel free to wipe away with this cleaner! I have used it for 2 weeks and haven't had anyone get sick, even after there was burger blood on my counter. I DO only use the rag once and toss it into the laundry.

I am messing around with other concoctions, but I'll post those once I make them and use them for a bit.

Happenings

Well I guess I should get back into blogging... ha ha! I haven't blogged in a year or more. So here it goes.

County fair this year was great. Kids won a ton of awards. We camped out at the fair grounds for the week. Had some fun with some great friends. We sold billy, Ashley's goat to us. lol So he now lives at our leaders house on her farm with some ducks and geese. Sarah's was going to go to our leaders house until he was stolen from the fair grounds. Yeah, crazy, I know. We recently got 2 Lab puppies. Bella is Ashley's and is a yellow lab. Dozer is a black lab and is for Courtney. We had to put Sammy down. He had Spleen cancer that spread to his liver. It was very sad.

I am now unemployed, although no fault of my own. I would rather not get into that, still very angry about it. I am working on some really fun money saving tips, and tricks. I'll have to get my stuff together and blog about all of it!

Things have been very crazy over here. Been having some numbness in my hands and feet. Just a lil Neuropathy, nothing too big. Makes me drop things sometimes. Other than that, things are good. Kids, hubby, doggies, and the goat... All good! Nite everyone!
